Five things Friday–Picture Style!

I survived another week of the long drive to our client 80 miles round trip away.  Needless to say, my monthly gas bill will hate me at the end of all this and I learned that my pregnant self cannot sit through 2 hours of traffic so I have a Burger King on my way home that I borrow to use the bathroom {TMI, I know} … but we are making good progress and adding value and that is what we are supposed to be doing.

So, I decided to shake things up a bit with my Five Things Friday tradition that I am on.  I feel like this really is the easiest way for me to keep everyone in the loop about what is going on in our world.  And everyone loves pictures – visually appealing and all!

houseThe house that I grew up in and the only house I remember went on the market this week. There are so many good times and memories in that house and even though I knew this day was coming eventually, it is still bitter sweet.  Just that neighborhood in general is full of summertime memories. Even when I posted on Facebook that it was on the market I had friends make comments like “wow I feel like I also grew up in that house” or “5710 will miss you in the neighborhood!” But, I can say that I was SO SO lucky to come home to the same house and same bedroom every Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Summer breaks and then holidays when I was in college and then after I moved to Atlanta. But, while it is sad that there will never be another Thanksgiving or Christmas in that house it is an exciting new chapter for my mom and dad to be moving into their retirement house and to have their 2 kids (and grandbaby) so close by.  So – if you know of anyone in Northern VA on the market for a house to create their own memories in – let me know!

babyinvite

please stop everything you’re doing right now and take a look at this baby shower invitation. it is for the shower my friends at work are throwing Kyle and me. And when I opened it, I literally said “stop it. where did you find this”.  McKenna is getting an Alabama themed baby shower – which is fitting since I refer to her as my little “Roll Tide Baby” and she will eventually be an Alabama alum. This is called starting them young!  I really am so lucky to have such a great group of girls at the office and to work for a company that is like my 2nd family.  But seriously. how cute is that baby shower invite?! This will have a perm place in her baby book!! =D

crateLook at what Kennesaw did this week!!  Normally she just pops open the door and lets herself out.  This week I believe she was making a statement. Not quite sure what the statement is, but I think she may be tired of being crated every single day so she just shoved the whole front part of her crate up and messed up all her bedding.   Demon.  She is a demon.  This weekend we are purchasing zip ties to tie the walls of the crate together so this does not happen again and then bungee cords to keep the door closed hopefully.  She does not do this everyday, but when she does it is just funny to see.  Kyle is more annoyed than I am, but I think she is just a nut job of a dog. Does anyone else have a Houdini dog?!  If so….. what did you do to keep you dog in their crate each day versus breaking out of their crate.

{four}

beddingMcKenna got her first baby gift this past weekend and we love it!!  my aunt – her great aunt – gifted her with crib sheets and the crib skirt for her nursery and when I say the picture does not do the cuteness justice, the cuteness is just too cute.  The little pink and gray bunnies are just too cute. And I got an email today from Koo Koo Bear Kids about a St. Patricks Day Sale – so we are going to go buy the crib and dresser this weekend at a whoping 50% off1! We will end up saving so much money and have a really high quality crib so we are stoked.  Me more than Kyle.  And…. it is supposed to be a rainy weekend which means I can put K to work painting the nursery!

{five}

cookiesif you’re ever looking for a unique Thank You gift to send someone and don’t want to sent the normal flowers or something like that you need to think about “The Cravery” – which is a cookie boutique that is amazing and makes me drool thinking about them.  Kyle’s mom sent me a dozen cookies {as a pregnancy snack} and let me tell you, Kyle and I were fighting over the Birthday Cake ones.  They are kinda pricey – but no more than flowers – and they taste so good.  We got Red Velvet {delicious}, Birthday Cake {I died they were so good} and a chocolate truffle {good, but too rich}.  Words cannot express how good they actually are but I feel like just thinking about them can give me gestational diabetes, but that does not mean I would turn away from them in the future.  Seriously, give them to a friend, family member, client, whatever.  You will get major kudos.

I hope everyone has a really good weekend!! We have pretty much nothing but lots of house stuff on the calendar – cleaning, painting, yard work, etc… and another trip to the vet’s office …. kennesaw went last week and was told she is a good dog – they don’t know about her crate habit. Mulligan goes tomorrow. And I want to hit Zumba in the morning since I have not been in awhile and need to be a little more active than I have been.

Bath time For the Grandparents!

the dogs in our house we getting gross and stinky.  As I worked from home on Wednesday I thought to myself “my coworker smells like a bag of Doritos” and no, I was not referring to a 5 year old – I was talking about Mulligan.

Well – Sunday was a miserable morning for the two fluffy kids in our house.  Kens and Mulls got baths.  We thought it was needed since the grandparents were coming in town on Wednesday and {don’t judge us} but I am pretty sure their last bath was in September and was done by the doggy day care center.  {we will bathe our real human kid better, I promise}puppy bath

Needless to say – we didn’t have 2 happy dogs with us.  Mulligan put on the dramatic, pouty face the whole time and Kennesaw just attempted to shake the water off each time Kyle dumped water on her.  But… they now smell like shampoo vs. a vacuum cleaner {and you all know that a vacuum has a distinct smell to it once it has been running} and they are super soft.

Kyle had to wash them alone because I normally sit in the bath and hold the dog down {true story} but with me being all knocked up and things that was just too dangerous.  So, I played “catcher” and got them as they were done and attempted to dry them off as best as I could.  Mulligan is easier to dry off…. but Kennesaw just may be part dog, part sponge and I think hours later she is still drying off.

…..and they didn’t even run their wet puppy bodies into the guest bedroom on the freshly made bed!  They must really love their grandparents because they always put their wet bodies in our bed to dry off.

Happy Rescued Day kenKen!

1 year ago I was working in filling in for a recruiter in our Marietta branch when Kyle called me to tell me about this dog that showed up in his IT Manager’s neighborhood.  1 year ago I called Kyle after my Blast900 class and asked where he was, only to be told that he was on his way to Kennesaw to pick up the dog.  1 year ago Kennesaw (unnamed at that point) came to my house, scared, covered in fleas, thirsty and super hungry.  And oh how things have changed in just 1 year.

If you have not heard the story of Kennesaw, you can do some quick reading and catch up HERE and HERE and HERE!

When I first saw Kennesaw I said “ugh” and thought she was so ugly. I loved on Mulligan WAY more than normal and let him know that he would always be my #1 and not to worry about that weird dog in our house. I now call her my Pretty Pretty Princess and I have to admit her wild hair makes her so super cute and Mulligan isn’t my #1, but neither is my Kens – they’re both my favorite in different ways.

thennowkenne

When I first saw her/heard about her – I said no way, no how. I was focused on the wedding and getting me married and another dog just meant more money to spend when boarding the pups while on the honeymoon. I was ready to foster her and adopt her out to a woman in Aiken, SC who had a farm and could give her a great life. I went to 1 adoption event and cried the whole time. I sent her off to Aiken and cried all day. And when I got the call that “it wasn’t working out” and had to pick her up I was more than happy to go get her and take her home home. To her forever home. Kennesaw taught Kyle and I that we could never foster a dog.  If we tried, we would end up with so many dogs.  But, we both now have a HUGE respect for those who foster dogs.

Kennesaw went frokennesaw couchm no roof over her head for a few days in the hot summer sun with no real food or water to being able to sleep on the couch with a pillow under her head in a nice cool house with a constant supply of water and steady meals. It does make us sad that she scarfs her meals down every.single.time as if it may be her last meal and that she eats sticks and pinecones when out back since we assume that is how she ate when she was flying solo in the neighborhood. We wish she would understand that she is home for good and will never go hungry again.

She has a big comfy bed (a replacement bed since Mulligan destroyed hers at daycare one night) right by my side of the bed that she sleeps in every night because she loves to be close to her Momma. She has another bed in our “family room” even though she opts for the couch every time.

She spent her 1st Christmas at our house getting spoiled with new toys from her parents and grandparents!  She met Santa and got her picture taken with him {and I am pretty sure she got EVERYTHING she asked for and more}!!

She has more toys (most are supposed to be shared, but she doesn’t share) than the average dog and she likes to pile them up and chew on as many as she can at one time.

Kennesaw has been a breath of fresh air and it has been great to have a dog that listens and is quick to learn.  She is a dog who wants to please and is so much easier to train than our big boy.  Granted, we just stated REALLY training her a few months ago.  I know.  I know.  We’re not stellar dog owners. (Another reason why we could never legit foster).

brotherandsisterlove

Even though the beginning was tough and Kennesaw spent a lot of time hiding under our bed from the big mean dog who would just growl at her and was very unwelcoming … Kennesaw and Mulligan have become the best of friends and it is so nice that they have each other.  Ken Ken loves her big brother (wayyy more than he loves her) and she misses him when he goes to the vet and she has to stay home. She follows him around at daycare even though she has dozens of other dogs to play with. I love when I find them cuddling in bed or on the couch together or when they chase each other around and wrestle {except for when they wrestle at midnight or 7 AM on a Saturday morning}. We think it is cute how she likes to “cry wolf” and yelp even though we know Mully is the gentle one out of the two of them.

Over the past year, we learned that even though Kennesaw is a girl – she is actually a total Tom-Boy who loves to hunt for possums, crawl under our deck to see what she can find, and just hang out outside.  We often find her with scrapes under her eyes or on her elbows and tufts of hair missing because she was out exploring our backyard. And if we’re ever wondering where one of her favorite toys are, 9 out of 10 times it is out back! We have been SO lucky that she hasn’t killed anything and then brought it through the doggie door. And she always seems to bring pine straw in the house since it is weaved in her fur.

One of the cutest things is that she has perfected the hand flip which consists of her placing her nose under your palm and then flipping your hand onto her head. It is her cute way of demanding to be rubbed. Yes. It gets old, especially when you want to sleep or read a book – but you cannot help put give her a little loving!

In the past year, I gained another total cuddle bug  who just wants to hang out in bed with me at night while I watch TV or read.  And she likes to lounge with her body on mine.  KenKen is my little girl and it is no secret that she really does love me way more than Kyle J.kenneme  She is also my shadow – wherever I go – Kennesaw is about 3 steps behind me. Sometimes tripping me.

We of course will never know why her original owners decided to dump her in a random neighborhood. We wonder and ask each other all the time if they ever think of her and wonder what happened to her and we wish we could tell them “don’t worry. she is okay – actually she is better than okay”. But we thank them for the unplanned and unexpected blessing that is now in our life and we thank them for taking the time to drive far back into a neighborhood and dump her rather than taking her to a shelter – because since she would have been an owner surrender, the odds would have been stacked against her.  We love our little furbaby and she really got lucky by landing us as parents.

And.  For the record. I am not here to preach, but there are so many beautiful, amazing dogs at your local shelter or local rescue organization.  So, if you’re ever in the market for a new dog – or your first dog – please think about rescuing a dog rather than buying one from a breeder or pet store!  Every time you adopt from a shelter you save a life and every time you adopt from a rescue you’re making room for one more dog in their group – so one more dog gets pulled from a shelter.  Either way, you’re saving a little furry friend’s life! And don’t be scared of the black dogs in shelters – Google black dog syndrome and you’ll learn they need the most attention and love.

I am a firm believer that a dog knows when he/she has been saved! Don’t get me wrong – we still have our struggles with her and even though we think she knows she is HOME she still cowers if we raise our voice and puts her tail between her legs. And she still treats every meal as if it was her last. But all in all, I am so glad that Kyle was told about her and that Kyle went and got her and brought her home.  Because even though I didn’t realize it that night, Kyle knew that she wasn’t going anywhere and she has been such a great addition to our family!

It is hard being a dog!

This is a HUGE week in Kennesaw's life!  1 year ago she was dumped by a dumb family and we took her into our home.

Today she went to the vet for her annual puppy exam and we were told that she is happy and healthy and perfect. Her coat is healthy and much better. She is well exercised with little to no body fat. And she took all her shots and other things like a trooper. I am sure the treats helped.

And then to celebrate 1 year of true happiness I took her to PetSmart where she picked out 3 news toys - 1 for Mulligan and 2 for her. Literally picked out toys. I threw toys on the floor in front of her. If she pounced on it for more than 3 seconds it was a winner! {yes. i picked up all the toys. and yes. i talked to her the whole time in a little wittle itty bitty baby puppy voice.} 1 hour later 2 of the toys are defluffed and dead {reminding me why we never buy fluffy toys and tell people not to buy them} but she was oh so happy romping around with her purple elephant and stealing toys out of Mulligan's mouth.

I really wish I had taken pictures of the toy selection time at PetSmart and the toy destruction at the house. Oh the memories we didn't capture forever.

Best part of it all: she was super sweet around the other dogs and the baby in the stroller!

Happy Almost 1 year Ken Ken!!

too early to think up a title.

Look at this early morning post from me! :)  I am at home this morning because our house is old and falling apart and the dishwasher broke like 2 weeks ago. And after having to hand wash dishes for a few weeks I  FINALLY followed up with our property management company to be like "um. hi. hello. what is going on with our dishwasher?!" ... and it appears the contractor didn't update them about a broken part and having to reschedule AND the contractor forgot to reschedule.  So... I am sitting here waiting for the dishwasher man to come to our house and make Kyle's week by fixing the dishwasher. we would have never made it in the non-electricity / no dishwasher era -- we.are.lazy.

But. With all that said. This morning has been so utterly relaxing. I am sitting on the couch - watching GMA, drinking my coffee, eating my yogurt, and monitoring my work email for important things. I got ready on my own time and it wasn't a mad sweaty dash to get up, ready, and out of the house {like normal} ... long story short - I could SO do this "stay at home" / "work from home" thing. ...like once a week. Let me be honest: I would DIE without social interaction.

I did love that both Mulls and Kens got in their crate like they normally do and when I just walked right past Kenne's crate and she realized I wasn't locking her up for the day she got SO excited and bounded out of the crate, tail wagging, and hopped on me to say that she was happy.  Little does she know that she will be locked up whenever this contractor gets here and then leaves.  Momma's gotta go to work to pay for your food and daycare and toys and vet visits and treats.  {but seriously, when will this dishwasher man be here?!}

On another topic.  This half marathon training is hard. Like harder than it was in the past.  Getting back into it is not the hard part.  I have been diligent about hitting the gym & working out & scheduling work outs - but I am having a hard time hitting the miles.  Maybe it is because I HATE HATE HATE treadmill running, but it is just too hot to run outside.  On top of it - my right foot {the arch} has been hurting.  Per the usual, I self diagnosed myself with tight muscles so I am making a much better effort to stretch and stretch a lot. And since my foot was REALLY hurting yesterday I skipped Blast900 since I didn't think hills, sprints, and running would be a good idea. But it is feeling better today - so I think I will try a little short run with lots and lots of stretching. :)

And. Since I am STILL waiting. I am going to Link Up with another fun link up I have seen bloggers doing called "It's Okay Thursday" ... probably won't be a weekly thing, but why not participate? (Objective: a list of things that in my mind are a-okay)
IT IS OKAY...
...to plan Kyle and my exotic 1 year anniversary trip that is WAY far away and I know won't actually happen...
...that I think it is super weird that people google search "barbie and kyle shanahan" {i know this thanks to the stats on how people find my blog}. Like why are you google searching us. We're LAME...
...to love on my dogs as much as I do...
...that I stay up WAY too late reading WAY too often. Sometimes a good book just sucks me in...
...that I really don't understand the point of this link up...
...that I am really impatient waiting for this contractor to come. I really need to get to work...
...that I ordered my 2013-2014 Erin Condren planner already. I know it was an impulse buy, but I just wanted to have it 100% ready for January 1...
...that I have not yet started my Christmas shopping even though I am normally 50% done by now...

...

That was random and weird. Not sure how I feel about that link up. But this whole post is random and weird.
1 more day till Friday ... I think we can all make it, right?! Even though Kyle and I have nothing on the calendar for this weekend I like to know that it is coming up and so super close.

.Ok. I think I am done.

:: foto friday ::

ignore the mess of a bed - but these are my loves that i do not talk about nearly enough.  i feel like between their early morning wrestling matches and kennesaw's constant need for belly rubs and mulligan's love of rocks and barking at the sky i would have plenty of fun times and good stories for you ... but i slack and am a horrible puppy mom!

but, here are the dogs i so totally love - just lounging the the bed - and i love how they are kind of sort of cuddling!  no room for me to crawl in of course!

Happy New Years!

It is 2012!! =D  HAPPY NEW YEARS!!  Kyle and I really had an uneventful night.  We started by taking down 95% of Christmas (still waiting for Kyle to take apart the tree) and watched a Christmas Carol.  We then spent the night by sitting on the couch (me in my PJs).  We watched Auburn win their bowl game and played each other in Words with Friends.  We then of course, watched the ball drop and then played more Words with Friends. Watch out Atlanta.... we are an exciting couple!

We also got Mulligan ready for any traveling he may do in 2012 {{he looks MISERABLE}}

And by the end of the night, Kyle and I were not the only ones who were super tired

HAPPY 2012!  IT IS GOING TO BE AN EXCITING YEAR!!

Because I'm Having a Bad Day...

I wanted to share this.  Who can have a bad day when both your dogs got to sit on Santa's lap at Doggie Daycare with funny things around their necks?!  I love those little guys!!

foto friday :: our little super model

I just found this picture in the archives of our doggy daycare photo archives.  I mean Kennesaw hams it up for the camera.  This girl poses - what a sass face!

Oi. Oi. Oi.

Of course - Kennesaw is scared of daycare.  She LOVES one on one play but the craziness of all the dogs freaks her out.  When I called to "check on her" since we saw her against the blue wall pretty much all day they just said she is really shy and overwhelmed and daycare is not for every dog.  But we NEED her to love it.  She has to stay there over our honeymoon.  Right now they said she cannot stay overnight... it would cause too much stress.  I can hear my dad now you never should have gotten a 2nd dog.

Foto Friday :: Kennesaw’s Demon Face

Who would want to pet and love on Kennesaw when she makes faces and looks like that?  Even Mulligan is like “woahhh woahhh woahhh”

011

But I promise she is not really a demon, she just has the face perfected when playing with her big brother.

Not wedding related - dog related.

I need a mental health moment.  Right now I cannot decide if I need to vomit because I am way tired or if it is because I am way nervous.  Why am I nervous?  Because my idiot self forgot to take our "found dog" posting off Craigslist and now there is some person who is asking questions.

Kyle and I do not think they're the same dog.  But at the same time, the "only" picture she has is from the dog was a puppy.  Which is crazy fishy to me because I have pictures of Mulligan EVERYWHERE and of all ages and we have probably 15+ pictures of Kennesaw and we've only had her a month.

You be the judge:

There is just a lot of sketchy stuff around this "owner" ... like it took her 2 days to find a picture of her dog.  And it has been a month why is she just now looking for the dog?  If I lost either one of the dogs I would put up signs and check Craigslist every freaking day. And if you lost your dog and have a potential lead, why not check your email often and frequently.  Why is there DAYS in between communication.

She asked me to send a picture of Kennesaw because she would "know her when she say her" and Kyle told me I should because what if this is legit, but I didn't want to ... but I did anyway.  And now I regret it.  I feel like we should have asked her to describe her prior to sending the picture.  And asked questions like "was she spayed".  I wish we had done a million and one things differently.  However, with that said... we're not giving her up that easily... we're going to make her answer questions like:

  • Was she spayed?
  • Where did you lose her and when? (so we can find out if she lost her AFTER we had her)
  • Can you describe any special traits about her?
  • Can your put us in contact with your vet so she can ID her as well?

I want to email her and say we have eye witnesses saying she was dumped and we found out AFTER we posted the ad.  And Kyle wants me to email her back saying " “Unfortunately, based on the picture you provided, I don’t see how these two can be the same dog. Therefore, I cannot accept your word for it unless you can provide indisputable proof of your claim. If you cannot provide proof, I will be forced to assume you are lying for some reason and will have to ignore all future e-mails from you.”

Please keep your fingers crossed.  I am having anxiety just thinking about having to give up my baby Kenns again.  Needless to say, I took the posting down right after and I hope whoever this bad dog owner is just never emails me back.

Puppy Play Date with Lola!

Yesterday was a fun little day for Mulligan and Kennesaw.  My friend Tiffany has an adorable little black dog named Lola.  Mulligan has met her in the past, but he really was more interested in playing fetch than playing with her.  But when Kennesaw came into our world, we decided to introduce her to Lola and let them play!  And oh it was glorious.

Mulligan came along too, so the 1st car ride with the two of them in the car was, well, interesting.  Mulligan as usual, barked his little face off.  Kennesaw just looked at him like he was a mad dog and kept trying to escape to the front seat and would put him in his place when he would trample her.  Okay, trample may be dramatic, but still he stood on her.
Lola (left) Kennesaw (right) afther their puppy date!

We got to Tiffany's and oh did the chaos start.  Lots of barking and pulling on the leash and then when they were free there was lots of chasing.  You know... typical dog world stuff.  Then the dogs seemed to not really be all that interested in each other.  Joy.  Mulligan played fetch for oh 2 hours and Kennesaw gave me a heart attack when she decided to escape under the fence.  Yeah. Escape. So I got to jump 2 fences and then carry her back in my arms through the jungle.  (Hey woman in Aiken, I REALLY need that chip info back so I can register her online.  Please and thank you.)  After closing up the hole on both sides with rocks and not letting the Escape artist out of my sight ... her and Lola FINALLY began to play.

And I mean they played.  They chased each other.  Wrestled with each other.  And when it was all said and done, I had 2 tuckered pups.

When we got home Kennesaw couldn't decide if she wanted to sleep in the kitchen or in the dining room so she slept half in one room and half in the other.   Mulligan, he just crashed on the love seat and these two dogs were pretty much done for the night.

Kennesaw has her 1st day of daycare on Friday and we're really excited to get her "graded" and see how she is behavior wise (we know bad) and see what sort of suggestions the trainers have on how to train her and exercise her.  Oh the life of a spoiled Shanahan-Vines dog!

Friday, September 9, 2011

new addition.

So. I need to update this blog to reflect the fact that we no longer have just Mulligan as a pet ... but we have 2 dogs now.  Mulligan & Kennesaw Shanahan-Vines.

And being a dog mom and dad to two dogs at times is much more work and at times it is much easier.  Harder times: breakfast and dinner. when 1 dog is puking and the other is curious. when 1 dog barks, the other one barks.  Easier times: playtime and they wear each other out.  dog walks.

And getting 1 dog who has been an only spoiled child for pushing 3 years to love and adore the new addition was a challenge too, but now that they love each other the only tense moments are in the mornings.  Lets just say Mulligan takes after his Mom and Dad and it not quite a morning person, where Kennesaw wants to love everyone.all.the.time.

failed foster–kennesaw update.

This post is a week over due and once again not wedding related but I wanted to share.  =D

Kennesaw’s adopted family did not work out, therefore, we had to go get her from Aiken SC.  I ended up taking a day off and met the woman half way and got our little Kenne back.  We decided that we couldn’t go through the adoption process again and she needed a good stable home – rather than the possibility of another adoption not going through.

So now… The Shanahan-Vines (or Vineahan house as we call it) has 2 people and 2 fabulous dogs in it!!  And for the record, she is for sure a puppy and we have not loved the 6 am weekend play with me wake up calls.  But it is all worth it.

the newest temporary addition

I know this blog RIGHT NOW is mainly about wedding planning, but I have the plan to shift it to a “Kyle + Barbie Shanahan Shenanigans” type keep up with our lives type thing post wedding day. kennesaw  So I thought maybe I would mix wedding and personal posts in because I know that reading all about flowers and shoes and invitations and dresses can be a bit blah and boring.  So I thought I would humor you with a story about Kyle’s big heart and our foster child, Kennesaw.  And it really isn’t humor – this whole experience has hurt my heart and hurt my faith in people even more.

This past Monday Kyle heard about a dog that was dumped by a family in a neighborhood in Kennesaw that needed a home or some help or both. Per Kyle’s coworker… a car drove up.  There was a bark.  The car drove away.  And then there was a stray dog in this neighborhood. Kyle being the dog lover with a big heart that he is decided he would be the one to take her in.  Me… I was not thrilled. With the stress of planning a wedding and 2 months of constant work travel coming up and already 1 not se well behaved pup I became immediately stressed because I knew her fate if we took her to animal control and I just wouldn’t let that happen.  So, I told him that we could not keep her but we could foster her and actively find her a new home.  But this little Welsh Terrier / Wire Terrier mix has melted my heart of ice (as Kyle was calling it) and everything has been much harder than I thought it would ever be.

The 1st thing I said was that she needed a bath and while bathing her we learned she had fleas – so queue the flea bath and then all the vacuuming of the upstairs.  Kyle took Tuesday off and found out that she was both happy and healthy – no parasites, no heartworms – just a little sad that her parents ditched her but happy we scooped her up.  We got SO super lucky and got a dog that is both house broken and crate trained and she has the sweetest personality ever and has SO much love to givkennye (she loves to give kisses) - we just have to deal with Mulligan being a big old jerk from time to time.  She is our little goldilocks, unable to decide if she wants to sleep In her crate or mulligans or on her plush plaid bed, but that is just one of her many cute characteristics.  I love dogs who cuddle and want to be loved on and all she wants to do Is be by your side, her high jumps and constant wiggles just make you smile and I cannot help but smile when I say “hey Kenny whatcha doing Kenny?!”.

I am a firm believer that a dog knows when they have been saved and to see the joy in Kennesaw’s eyes when we brought her home Monday and then to watch her start to trust us more and more is an amazing feeling.  Kyle and I have had the conversation that he is not to bring home any more strays in the future and I do not think we will EVER foster another dog after this one (even though there are so many pups that need a good home, whether it is a forever home or a temporary one) because it will be hard to watch her go.  (Yes, it has only been 7 days and I adore her.)  I am just so grateful she will go to a home through a rescue organization so there will be a home check to ensure she is going to an amazing family and home that will love her more than her original family did.

Kennesaw had her 1st adoption event today and it went SO SO SO well.  I was a mess the whole time and just cried as families would  kneel down to look at her cute face and accepting smile.  Even talking about her and being introduced to a woman who was handing over her foster to a new home made the water works start more.  But the adoption day went so well because Kennesaw found herself a potential furever home with a woman from Aiken SC who is also adopting another wire haired terrier.  Kenny will have 10 acres of land, a swimming pool, a sister, and a mom who will be home all day long to lovkennae on her.  I know I should be happy for her but a piece of my heart is breaking and so sad that I will have to give her up should this woman pass the home check.   I know that is just me being selfish and we cannot give her a good home with Mulligan being a big old bully and her not knowing where she can go and how that big dog will be acting that day, but I could not help but get attached to this little ball of love.

Needless to say this was our 1st and last foster.  I don’t know how people foster animals and do not get attached.  The potential new momma to Kennesaw gave me a huge hug as I was crying and told me “thank you. there need to be more good people like you and you fiancĂ© in this world.”  I know her words were supposed to make me feel better, but oh how it made me cry more.
