2010 training summary.

Thanks Dailymile for a great recap of my 2010.  Some AWESOME months ... some not so awesome months.  Best thing about a new year ... starting over.  January has been a bit slow {and I am currently snowed in} but I will dust off the running shoes soon.  Promise.

384 miles run. average of 7 miles per week. 125 workouts total. 17 pounds burned.

2010 goals revisited.

HAPPY NEW YEARS EVE!!

 Yikes, really, where did 2010 go?!  I hope everyone had an awesome year and are looking forward to an even better 2011! ...with the end of the year, I guess that means I need to revisit what I had planned for the year and see how well I did/did not do.

And here we go...

  1. resolution one: take this thing called running more seriously. actually TRAIN for big events. don't go out and wing it. {result: um. I did a lot of winging it this year. I think the only race I was REALLY prepared for was the Atlanta 13.1 in October and it was more of a training run than a race. whoops.}
  2. which leads to resolution two: run at the minimum 60 miles per month. do the 10% rule so i do not get injured.  {result: lets as a group laugh out loud at this one. i had i think 2 months over 60 miles and 2 months under 10 miles.}
  3. resolution three: incorporate cross training. swim. row. kick box. take spin classes. I signed up at LA Fitness ... now I just have to use it. {result: truth be told, i did a lot more cross training at the beginning of the year and when i canceled my gym membership i started doing none. i learned that swimming is hard and i LOVE spin.}
  4. resolution four: focus on pace and form to get faster. build my endurance. incorporate hill training, tempo runs, speed workouts. focus on long distances. just get faster. {result: hills: yes. tempo runs: no. speed workouts: iffy. focus on distance: iffy just get faster: ehh kinda.}
  5. resolution five: do more races. focus on finding 10ks rather than 5ks. I am at a point where a 5k is fun, but it is not a challenge for me. I want to be challenged in 2010 ~ shall we call 2010 the year of 10ks?! **don't hear me wrong, I will still run them ... work toward a PR, but I want to focus on distance next year!** {result: I started out with a lot of 10ks and some 5ks, about one per month. then it got pricey so i scaled back at the end of the year. ...and so did my running.}
  6. resolution six: run a half marathon (or more) and be prepared for it - rock it out! {result: total half marathons run: 3 total ready for 1.5 (Atlanta, yes. ING pretty much. Nashville, if the hills were not so killer than yes)}
 and with that my friends, we have my year in a nutshell. going into 2011 lets hope I can learn to balance work, my relationship, and running.

total miles: 387.03 for the year...

september. where did you go?

another month has come and gone and 2010 is quickly coming to an end. honestly, i feel like i JUST started running again and I hardly believe that this time last year I was gearing up for my first ever half marathon. i mean really... where does the time go.

i really to not have too much to say, but i had the 2nd highest mileage month of 2010.  47.94 miles ran in total. call it me cramming for marine corps. but whatever you want to call it, i am super happy with my high miles month. i ran a 10k and beat my time last year which i was super happy about, ran a super hilly half marathon in nashville, and just logged some around the neighborhood miles.  nothing really exciting happened this past month.

with it now being october and marine corps being all of 30 days away (yikes.yikes.yikes.) i am going to make a crazy effort to get my butt out of the office every day for something active. i know what i do this month won't help drastically -- but every little bit helps. i am doing another 13.1 this weekend with a run home so i am hoping to get in 16 on saturday and that will be my longest run before mcm - but goodness october will be cramming time. (...wait i am supposed to be talking about september...)

.my playlist.well, the abbreviated version.
1. "Empire State of Mind" -Glee Cast
2. "Just a Dream" -Nelly
3. "Fancy Footwork" - Chromeo
4. "Peacock" -Katy Perry
5. "If I Had You" -Adam Lambert
6. "2012 (It Ain't the end)" - Jay Sean
7. "DJ Got Us Falling In Love" -Usher
8. "La, La, La" -Auburn
9. "Not Myself Tonight" -Christina Aguleria
10. "Love Me" -Justin Bieber

how was your september?!

marine corps marathon goals.

with marine corps being too close for comfort and many people talking about the race on twitter, i decided this is a GREAT time to set some goals and focus in on them. so without further ado, goals for marine corps marathon 2010.

start slow. don't like the excitement get to me. remember to pace myself. remember to breathe in and out. remember that i have to finish.
5k: 33 minutes. (10:18 pace)
10k: 1 hr 10 minutes (11:17 pace)
10 miles: 2 hours (12:00 pace)
half way, 13.1: 2:35 (11:49 pace)
:: i figure this is where i am gonna start really slowing down and moving slower and going to have to really start pacing myself ::
beat the bridge: the bridge is right before the 20 mile mark and is raised. if you do not make it to the bridge by the time it is raised you pretty much fail. you're not allowed to finish. i must be at the bridge at the latest by 4 hours and 4o minutes (14:00 pace even). i will write 4:40 somewhere on my body to push myself there. i will beat the bridge. honestly, this is the thing that is scaring me the most.
last 6.2: dedicate 1 mile to 1 person. run that 1 mile for them so it will push me to keep going and keep me from walking too much.
finish time: 5:40 (12:40 pace)

so who am i gonna dedicate each mile to for the last 6.2? I will let you know when I know. It will probably be game time decisions and you'll find out in my race recap. until them... happy training to everyone that is aiming for the marine corps medal. :o)

i finished disney in 5:53:21 which was a 13:29 pace... so I am hoping to shave off 13 minutes...

twenty.ten. goals.

it is good to make goals and resolutions right? maybe hopefully you'll stick to them? i have been thinking about my running goals for the new year and have decided to chronicle them here. nothing like having the world wide web hold you accountable right?

as my previous post stated 2009 was my return to running and getting back in shape. however, i felt like a total liar and fake runner. really who signs up for a half and full marathon and doesn't train? walkers put in more miles than i did leading up to both Nike and Disney! ...so that is where I will begin.
  1. resolution one: take this thing called running more seriously. actually TRAIN for big events. don't go out and wing it.
  2. which leads to resolution two: run at the minimum 60 miles per month. do the 10% rule so i do not get injured.
  3. resolution three: incorporate cross training. swim. row. kick box. take spin classes. I signed up at LA Fitness ... now I just have to use it.
  4. resolution four: focus on pace and form to get faster. build my endurance. incorporate hill training, tempo runs, speed workouts. focus on long distances. just get faster.
  5. resolution five: do more races. focus on finding 10ks rather than 5ks. I am at a point where a 5k is fun, but it is not a challenge for me. I want to be challenged in 2010 ~ shall we call 2010 the year of 10ks?! **don't hear me wrong, I will still run them ... work toward a PR, but I want to focus on distance next year!**
  6. resolution six: run a half marathon (or more) and be prepared for it - rock it out!
I know I had this wild and crazy idea to do '10 in 2010' - but instead I think I am just going to focus on finding the love of running, working it into my busy life, and training safely and correctly. With that said, I am for sure doing Disney *of course*, but after that I think I am only going to go ING in March, Seattle with Team in Training in June, and VA Beach in September. One full and 3 half's. We will then see where 2011 takes me.

That is all. Wish me luck. I hope to be able to sit here on 12.29.2010 and say I knocked each one out. Have a very happy new years and all the best to all of you in 2010! :o)
